With around 10,000 visitors per run it is usually sold out and finances itself entirely from ticket sales. It is run by the Alt-Köln heritage society, founded in 1902. Since 2016 the Kumede has performed at the Volksbühne am Rudolfplatz, the former Millowitsch Theatre.
