The Cologne Chocolate Museum sits on a peninsula in the Rheinauhafen and presents the world's most comprehensive display devoted to cocoa and chocolate. Its centrepiece is a glass chocolate factory where you can follow modern production step by step.

At a glance

From the Olmecs to the bar

The exhibition traces cocoa from its origins among the Olmecs, Maya and Aztecs to today's products and production methods. Inside a glass cube ten metres on each side, real cocoa trees grow in a tropical climate.

A landmark on the water

The striking new building, evoking ship motifs, was the first structure of today's Rheinauhafen quarter. With its swing bridge, old customs house and Malakoff tower, the museum blends into the historic harbour ensemble.
